Religious Right and the Iraq War III
Today in Church our senior pastor made reference to Rowan William’s warning concerning how the lives of Christians in the Middle East have been made worse by American and British foreign policy. As someone who interacts with Christians from places such as Pakistan and Iran, I can confirm the truth of RWs comments.
This, of course, goes against Wayne Grudem’s support of American foreign policy as providing greater freedom for the spread of the Christian faith. The Iraq War, based as it was on a lie, only provides fuel for radical Islam, as it suggests that this oil grabbing vendetta is actually a Christian crusade against Islam. In fact, Grudem’s comments become part of the problem, as they reinforce this image. The trouble is that this radicalism then becomes directed against Christians within Islamic countries and thus the policies of Grudem’s “outstanding…excellent president” actually damage Christian witness in the Middle East.
