Concerning my previous post on “special” children (i.e. those with mental handicaps or learning difficulties)
“If that image [of God] is understood in terms of sophisticated rationality… then the participation of such people in it becomes highly problematic…But if imaging God…has to do with the quality of our relationships…those who are disabled in terms of discursive reason often have…an innate and well tuned sensitivity in terms of human relationships and an ability to give and receive that can put the rest of us to shame…disabled people are more certainly in the image of God and can have a very real ministry in reminding the rest of us what that means.”
